Drug safety evaluation, also known as non clinical drug safety evaluation, is to evaluate the safety of therapeutic drugs through laboratory research and animal in vitro system. It is a necessary procedure and an important step for new drugs to enter the final clinical trial and final approval.

It can be used to evaluate the safety of drug research and development, such as general toxicity, genotoxicity and local toxicity, histopathology, reproductive toxicity, genotoxicity, safety pharmacology, toxicity and safety biomarkers.
